Their story
Bodegas Margon was started in 2007 by two families, the Martínezes and the Gonzálezes, in Pajares de los Oteros, a village in the province of León in northwest Spain. Their goal was to save and showcase the area's very old vineyards.
The project was developed under the technical direction of Raúl Pérez, one of Spain's best-known winemakers. Its wines are bottled under the Pricum name.
How it's made
The red wines come from centenary Prieto Picudo vines, a grape native to León. The old vines grow low to the ground without trellises and are picked by hand, tended in the traditional way the families learned from earlier generations.
Why we carry them
We are always curious about rare local grapes, and Prieto Picudo is one most people have never tasted. Margon's old vines make it a great place to start.
