Their story
Danny Taing founded Bokksu in New York in 2015 after living in Japan and coming home to find that the snacks he loved there were hard to get in the United States. He started with a subscription box built around snacks from different regions of Japan.
The company grew into an online market in 2018 and an Asian grocery shop in 2021. In 2023 Bokksu bought Japan Crate, a fellow snack subscription company.
How it's made
Bokksu gathers snacks and sweets from different regions of Japan, many of them made by family businesses. Each box comes with printed notes on the snacks and the makers behind them.
Our featured pick
Shirasu Anchovies w/ Mentaiko (Cod Roe) (80ML)
$15.00
These shirasu (anchovies) are caught fresh in Miyazaki Port and preserved using cottonseed oil and savory mentaiko (cod roe). This combination is a true Japanese delicacy with its buttery-rich umami.

Why we carry them
We like Bokksu for introducing us to snacks we would never find otherwise. It is a fun way to taste regional Japan, and the boxes make a great gift.
