Their story
Bomberger's Declaration is a limited Kentucky straight bourbon from Michter's Distillery in Louisville, part of its Legacy Series. The name looks back to Michter's earliest history in Pennsylvania.
That story begins in 1753, when John Shenk, a Swiss Mennonite farmer, started a distillery in Pennsylvania. In the 1800s it became Bomberger's Distillery, and it later took the Michter's name before closing in the late 1980s. The modern Michter's revived the brand and makes its whiskey in Kentucky, which has drawn some pushback from a Pennsylvania distillery that also claims the Bomberger's heritage.
How it's made
The bourbon is finished with Chinquapin oak, a hallmark of this release, and in recent editions also Hungarian oak. Michter's air dries both woods for three years before giving them a custom toast and char. It is bottled at 108 proof in small annual releases.

$300.00
Bomberger’s Declaration Distillery Bourbon is a robust Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, bottled at 108 proof with a broad spectrum of distinctively rich characters. It is matured in special barrels, some of which were made from Chinquapin oak that has been naturally air dried for over 3 years. The distillery honors the legacy of the former distillery known as Bomberger’s in the 1800s and later as Michter’s in the 20th Century.

Why we carry them
We like this release for the way the Chinquapin oak brings cherry and spice to the bourbon. It is a bottle for sipping slowly and sharing with someone who likes whiskey history.
