Their story
Brendan Stater-West is an American who came to France to teach English in Paris and fell for wine. He studied the trade, worked at the Paris shop Spring, then moved to Saumur to apprentice with Romain Guiberteau in 2011 while earning his winemaking degree.
He made his first wines under his own name in 2015, from a single hectare in a vineyard called Les Chapaudaises near the village of Bizay.
How it's made
The vines grow on limestone and are farmed organically, with herbal treatments and cover crops like fava beans and rye. Wines ferment with native yeasts and age about 18 months in used barrels, with only small doses of sulfur.

Why we carry them
We think Brendan's wines show just how thrilling Saumur Chenin can be. They are tiny-production bottles worth grabbing when you see them.
