Their story
Burlap & Barrel was founded in 2016 by Ori Zohar and Ethan Frisch, who wanted to change how spices move from farm to kitchen. The idea took shape around a search for better cumin and the farmers who grow it.
The New York company is a public benefit corporation that works directly with farmers and foragers in places like Guatemala, Iceland, Spain, Turkey, and Vietnam, cutting out the long chain of middlemen common in the spice trade.
How it's made
Each spice is single-origin and traced to a specific farm or cooperative. Burlap & Barrel buys directly and pays farmers well above commodity prices, then ships the spices fresh with fewer handoffs along the way.
