Their story
Cantina Horus belongs to the Giudice family, who farm about 100 hectares in the Hyblaean country between Acate and Vittoria in southeastern Sicily. The family started the business in 1974.
Only about 30 hectares are vines. The rest is almond and olive groves, which gives the place the feel of a working Sicilian farm. The family describes its move to organic wine as a way of staying tied to its farming roots.
How it's made
The vineyards are planted to local grapes such as Frappato, Nero d'Avola, Grillo, Insolia and Moscato, and farmed organically. Instead of systemic sprays, the family uses organic fertilizers and beneficial insects, with rose bushes at the row ends as an early warning for disease.

Why we carry them
We like Horus's Frappato as a light, chillable red for warm evenings. It is a friendly introduction to the wines of Vittoria.
