Their story
Cappelletti began in 1909, when herbalist and apothecary Giuseppe Cappelletti opened a shop in Trento. After World War I he moved it to the city's Piazza di Fiera. With no children of his own, he passed the business to his nephew Ferrante.
The company stayed in the family through Ferrante's son Gianpaolo, and today Gianpaolo's children, Luigi and Maddalena, own it. Production is now in Aldeno, just south of Trento, where the family makes around 250,000 bottles a year.
How it's made
The signature Aperitivo, known locally as Il Specialino, uses a wine base from Pinot Bianco, Garganega and Trebbiano with mountain herbs, colored with carmine. Sfumato Rabarbaro draws on Chinese rhubarb that grows wild in Trentino, and Elisir Novasalus is an amaro of about 30 herbs, including aloe and gentian.

Why we carry them
We like Cappelletti in a spritz when we want something a little drier and more wine-driven than the usual. The Sfumato is a fun smoky surprise.
