Their story

Castle & Key sits on the grounds of the Old Taylor Distillery outside Frankfort, Kentucky. Colonel E.H. Taylor built it in 1887, complete with a limestone castle, gazebos and sunken gardens.

After about 40 years of neglect, partners Will Arvin and Wesley Murry set out to restore the site, finding century-old buildings that were still sound. They named the new distillery in Taylor's honor, and it held its grand opening in 2018.

Marianne Barnes, at the time the only woman working as a master distiller in Kentucky, developed the original bourbon and gin recipes.

How it's made

Castle & Key distills bourbon using grain from local Kentucky farms, with plans for bottled-in-bond releases. Its gin uses botanicals grown on the distillery grounds.

Why we carry them

The gin is a favorite of ours for whiskey drinkers who think they don't like gin. The bourbon is worth a look for anyone who loves Kentucky history.
