Their story
Château Moutin is in the village of Portets, in the Graves area of southern Bordeaux. It belongs to the Darriet family, whose Bordeaux roots go back to the late 1700s and whose first property was in Loupiac, known for sweet wines. Today siblings Jean-Christophe Darriet and Sandrine Darriet-Froléon run the family firm.
The red vineyard is small, about 3 hectares, planted on the deep gravel that gives Graves its name.
How it's made
The red blends Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon from vines around 50 years old. The family has focused on sustainable farming since the 1950s, plowing instead of using herbicides and avoiding synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. The red ages in French oak barrels, some new and some used, and rests in bottle before release.
