Their story
Compartés has been making chocolate in Los Angeles since 1950. Jonathan Grahm started working there at 15, and at 21 he bought the company and rebranded it, turning it into one of the city's best-known chocolate names.
Today the chocolate is made at a factory in Culver City, and the bars are sold in thousands of shops across the country. Grahm still leads the company as owner and CEO, and much of its work draws on Los Angeles itself.
How it's made
Compartés pairs dark, milk and white chocolate with ingredients like strawberries, potato chips, coffee and donuts. It uses local ingredients where it can and prints its packaging locally, and the wrappers are as much a part of the brand as the chocolate.
