Cultures For Health

Starter cultures and kits for making yogurt, kefir and kombucha at home.

Founded by
Julie Feickert, Eric Feickert
Based in
Morrisville, North Carolina

Their story

Cultures for Health began with Julie and Eric Feickert. While pregnant with their first child, Julie gave up processed foods and started making her own yogurt from a starter culture. The couple noticed there was no reliable place online for people who wanted to ferment at home, so they built one.

The company grew quickly, helped by a public radio feature on its heirloom yogurt starters. It later moved to North Carolina, where it is based today.

How it's made

Cultures for Health sells live starter cultures for yogurt, kefir, kombucha, sourdough and more, packed so home cooks can keep them going batch after batch. Kits come with instructions for beginners.

Why we carry them

We like Cultures for Health for anyone curious about fermenting at home. A yogurt or kefir starter is an easy first project.
