Their story

Dandelion Chocolate is a San Francisco story. Todd Masonis and Cameron Ring, who met at Stanford and later co-founded the tech company Plaxo, started roasting cacao as a hobby in a basement. Their first bars sold out fast at the city's Underground Market.

Shortly before Christmas 2012 they opened a factory and cafe on Valencia Street in the Mission, where visitors can watch chocolate being made, take classes and order drinking chocolate and pastries.

As demand grew, the company added a larger production space nearby, keeping Valencia Street as a place for learning and special bars.

How it's made

Dandelion buys cacao beans from specific farms and co-ops around the world and makes single-origin bars with just two ingredients, cacao and sugar. The team tests each new bean through many trial roasts and blind tastings, then writes down a set recipe so any of its chocolate makers can reproduce the bar.

Why we carry them

We love having a neighbor like Dandelion, and their single-origin bars are a great way to taste how much cacao from different places can vary.
