Their story
Casa D'Aristi is a family-run producer in Mérida, the capital of Yucatán, run by the Aristi family. Its factory sits at Hacienda Vista Alegre on the east side of the city, and visitors can tour it.
The house is best known for Xtabentún, a sweet liqueur named after a Mayan legend about two women, Xtabay and Utz-Colel. The producers trace the drink's roots to balché, a ceremonial Mayan drink made with honey.
Alongside Xtabentún, D'Aristi makes a range of rums, including flavored versions, and a liqueur made from nance fruit.
How it's made
Xtabentún is made by fermenting honey together with anise, filtering the result and then sweetening it with more honey. D'Aristi ages its rums in used bourbon barrels.
Why we carry them
We like a small pour of Xtabentún over ice after dinner, or a splash in coffee, for a taste of the Yucatán you will not find many other places.
