Domaine Michel Bregeon

Organic gabbro Muscadet from an estate that helped define serious Muscadet.

Based in
Gorges, Loire Valley

Their story

Fred Lailler runs Domaine Brégeon in Gorges, near Nantes, having taken over the estate from Michel Brégeon in 2011.

Michel was one of the early champions of high-quality Muscadet, convinced that Melon de Bourgogne could make great wine and a tireless promoter of the Nantais vineyards. Today the domaine covers 10 hectares on the clay-rich gabbro of Gorges and sandier granite soils in Clisson.

How it's made

The vineyards are farmed organically and harvested by hand. Fermentations rely on indigenous yeasts so that each soil type shows through in the glass.

Why we carry them

Brégeon's gabbro Muscadet is the kind of bottle that changes minds about the region; we'd pour it with oysters or a roast chicken.
