Drambuie

Scotland's classic whisky liqueur, sweetened with heather honey.

Their story

Drambuie's story starts on the Isle of Skye. According to legend, Bonnie Prince Charlie gave a recipe to Captain John MacKinnon in thanks for shelter after the Battle of Culloden in 1746.

In the 1870s, Skye hotelier James Ross began selling the liqueur, and the name was registered as a trademark in 1893. Ross's widow later sold the recipe to a different MacKinnon family, who began making Drambuie in its current form in Edinburgh in 1910.

The MacKinnons ran the brand for most of the following century. In 2014 it was acquired by William Grant & Sons, the family-owned Scotch company behind Glenfiddich.

How it's made

Drambuie blends aged Scotch whisky with heather honey, herbs and spices. The exact recipe remains a closely held secret.

Why we carry them

We keep Drambuie on hand for a classic Rusty Nail, and a small pour over ice makes an easy after-dinner sip.
