Their story
Weingut Berger is a family winery in Gedersdorf, at the eastern end of the Kremstal in Lower Austria. Erich and Michaela Berger lead the estate, and Erich guides the style in the cellar. The family also runs a guesthouse at the winery.
The Bergers farm about 25 hectares on steep loess terraces and higher hillside sites such as Moosburgerin, Wieland, Pfaffenberg, Steingraben and Spiegel. Their aim is wines that taste of the grape and the place they come from.
How it's made
About three-quarters of the vineyard is Grüner Veltliner, with Riesling, Gelber Muskateller, Zweigelt and Pinot Blanc making up the rest, all farmed under organic guidelines. Whites ferment slowly at cool temperatures and age only in stainless steel, while reds mature in traditional oak vats. The range includes a one-liter Grüner Veltliner.
Why we carry them
We like Berger's Grüner Veltliner as a fresh, peppery white at an everyday price. The liter bottle is made for sharing.
