Their story
Fattoria Dianella sits in the Montalbano hills near Vinci, about 20 kilometers from Florence, in the town where Leonardo da Vinci was born. Francesco and Veronica Passerin d'Entreves took over the estate in 2003, following the Billeri family.
The estate has a long history. Its Chianti was poured in 19th-century trattorias and at the royal table in Rome's Quirinal Palace. In 2014 the family brought in oenologist Franco Bernabei to focus on local grapes, and they spent a decade reviving Orpicchio, an old Tuscan white variety, first released in 2019.
Of the estate's 90 hectares, 25 are planted to vines.
How it's made
The vineyards are farmed organically, with Sangiovese as the main grape alongside Colorino, Vermentino, Orpicchio and Malvasia. Wines are made across three cellars, including one with concrete vats around 200 years old, where the Chianti ages before bottling; the Riserva rests in large French oak.
Why we carry them
We like Dianella for honest, organic Sangiovese from a lesser-known corner of Chianti. Le Veglie di Neri is a great everyday Tuscan red.
