Their story
Fratelli Branca was founded in Milan in 1845, and within a decade the founder's sons Luigi, Giuseppe and Stefano had joined the business, giving it the name "Branca Brothers." It is still controlled by the Branca family, with Niccolò Branca as president and CEO.
Fernet-Branca, the bracing bitter digestif, is the house's best-known bottle, followed by Branca Menta. Over the years the company added other Italian names to its stable, including Punt e Mes, Carpano, Caffè Borghetti and Stravecchio Branca, and in 1925 it opened a production plant in Argentina.
How it's made
Fernet-Branca is an amaro made from a family recipe of botanicals, produced at the company's distillery in Milan. The company's holding group also runs a museum and study center devoted to the brand's history.
Why we carry them
Fernet-Branca has a special place in San Francisco bar culture, and we think every home bar should have a bottle. Sip a small pour after a big meal, or use a dash to add bite to a cocktail.
