Their story
Funaro is run by siblings Tiziana, Clemente and Giacomo Funaro near Santa Ninfa in western Sicily. Their family had grown grapes on the land for three generations before the three of them started making and bottling their own wine in 2003.
The estate covers about 85 hectares, with roughly 60 in vines and 15 in olive groves, plus vegetable plots, fruit trees and land set aside for nature.
How it's made
All the wines come from the family's own vineyards, and the estate presents its range as organic. The lineup includes Nero d'Avola, a rosato, the Pinzeri bottlings and the Passo di Luna white and red.
Why we carry them
We like Funaro for honest Sicilian wine from a family that farms its own grapes. The Nero d'Avola is an easy pick for pizza night.
