Their story
Garo'vin is the small domaine of Cédric Garreau in Beaulieu-sur-Layon, in Anjou. He grew up in the Loire, where his father worked for larger cellars, studied viticulture in 2006 and then traveled, including farm work in New Zealand.
He started Garo'vin in 2010 with 2 hectares and now farms about 3.5 hectares across four plots. He works alone, using secondhand traditional equipment bought from neighbors. In 2018 he stepped away from the Anjou appellation for his red, which now goes by the name Metisse.
How it's made
The vines are farmed organically, range from 6 to 90 years old and grow mostly on schist. Garreau works with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grolleau and Chenin Blanc, and he has made his wines with no added sulfur since 2017.
Why we carry them
We love finding tiny growers like Garreau, who does nearly everything himself. These are lively, unfussy natural wines with real Loire character.
