Their story

HenHouse Brewing Co. was started by three friends: Collin McDonnell, Shane Goepel and Scott Goynes. McDonnell decided to open a brewery after brewing an amber ale at home in Oakland in 2009, then spent time working at Bay Area breweries before teaming up with the other two.

The trio licensed their operation in 2011 and began brewing after hours in borrowed space in Petaluma, turning out tiny batches for about two years. An early oyster stout made with Hog Island oyster shells helped get them noticed. With help from family and friends they scaled up, opened taprooms and later built a brewery in Santa Rosa.

How it's made

HenHouse puts a premium on freshness, getting beer to shelves and taps soon after it is packaged. The brewery is known for hoppy beers alongside saisons and stouts. Keeping the beer cold and moving quickly is central to how they work.

We want to make beers that you can think about, but you don’t have to.

Why we carry them

We like stocking a brewery from just up the road that cares this much about freshness. Grab a can of their IPA and drink it soon, the way they intend.
