Their story
Heyday Canning Co. was started by Kat Kavner and Jaime Tulley, who met while working at Sweet Earth. Kavner had also worked at Clif Bar, bringing a background in branding, while Tulley brought operations know-how.
The idea came in spring 2020, when lockdowns sent shoppers rushing for canned goods and the two noticed how dull most of the options were. They set out to make canned beans you would be glad to open, and the first six flavors reached stores in late 2022.
How it's made
Recipes were developed with recipe writer Ali Slagle, then tested in a home kitchen and on a university canning line before moving to a co-packer. Each can holds beans or chickpeas cooked in a finished sauce, such as harissa lemon or coconut curry. The beans are made to be eaten over rice, pasta or vegetables with little extra work.
Our featured pick
Harissa Lemon Chickpeas (15OZ)
$7.00
These chickpeas are zhuzhed up with harissa paste, a big squeeze of lemon, and a blend of toasty spices to create a sauce that's warm and smoky with a just-right citrusy zip.

Why we carry them
We like having a can that turns into dinner in five minutes. Heat the chickpeas, spoon them over rice and you are done.
