Their story

Jackrabbit Brewing sits on Terminal Street in West Sacramento, near the river port. Brothers Chris and Scott Powell co-own it with Ed Edsten and Kevin Hull, and they named it for the wild jackrabbits that roam the area.

The four built their brewhouse the hard way. They bought used dairy equipment off Craigslist, taught themselves to weld, and pieced together a working system before selling their first kegs in 2013.

The effort paid off. Their Square Hare, a strong Belgian-style quad, took first place in the Best of California commercial craft beer competition at the 2017 California State Fair.

How it's made

Jackrabbit focuses on Belgian, English and German styles brewed on its homemade system. The Saison is fermented with an old Belgian yeast strain, and the Square Hare quad is a rich, high-strength beer at over 11 percent alcohol.

Why we carry them

We have a soft spot for breweries built by hand, and Jackrabbit's European-style beers back up the story. Try the Belgian styles if you like beer with a bit of spice and depth.
