Their story
Falernum is an old Caribbean sweetener, and John D. Taylor's is the best-known bottling of it. In 1890 John D. Taylor of Barbados refined a local recipe into the version that carries his name today.
The liqueur is now made at Foursquare Distillery in Barbados, one of the island's most respected rum houses. Bartenders lean on it for tiki classics like the Zombie and the Corn 'n' Oil.
How it's made
Velvet Falernum is built from sugar cane, lime, almond and cloves, giving it a sweet, zesty and gently spiced profile. At about 11 percent alcohol, it works as a cocktail modifier rather than a base spirit.
Why we carry them
We think every home bar that makes tiki drinks needs a bottle of this. A splash brightens up a daiquiri or a rum punch.
