Their story
Kings County Distillery started with a taste of home. Colin Spoelman grew up in Harlan, Kentucky, and the moonshine he brought back from visits was a hit at parties in New York. In 2010 he and David Haskell opened a tiny commercial distillery in a 325-square-foot room in East Williamsburg, running five small stainless steel stills.
The distillery later moved into the historic Paymaster Building in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where it still makes all of its whiskey. It has been called the oldest operating distillery in New York City, and in 2016 the American Distilling Institute named it Distillery of the Year.
How it's made
Everything happens in-house in Brooklyn, from mashing local grain through open fermentation, distillation in Scottish copper pot stills and barrel aging. The lineup includes moonshine, straight bourbon, a peated bourbon, empire rye, single malt and a chocolate whiskey.

Why we carry them
We like Kings County for showing what a city distillery can do; the peated bourbon is a fun one to pour for a whiskey friend.
