Their story
Lakanto is a division of Saraya, a Japanese company headquartered in Osaka with more than 70 years of history in hygiene, health care and functional foods. Its monk fruit sweetener was first developed in Japan to help people with diabetes.
Saraya brought Lakanto to the U.S. around 2015, setting up in Lindon, Utah. In 2023 it opened a large production plant in nearby Orem, its North American manufacturing headquarters.
How it's made
The core product blends monk fruit, a small melon long used as a sweetener in China, into a sugar substitute. Lakanto makes granulated and powdered sweeteners in Orem, along with baking mixes, sauces and chocolate bars built around them.
Why we carry them
We like Lakanto for baking and coffee when you want sweetness without sugar, it measures much like the real thing.
