Their story
Lakrids by Bulow began in 2007 in Svaneke, a harbor town on the Danish island of Bornholm, where Johan Bulow set out to change how people think about licorice. His shop there is still a destination for visitors.
The brand grew into a gourmet licorice company sold well beyond Denmark, known for chocolate-coated licorice and seasonal flavors. It has had outside investors for some time, and in November 2025 it was acquired by IDG Capital from the Nordic private equity firm Valedo.
How it's made
Lakrids by Bulow makes both sweet and salty licorice, much of it coated in chocolate and finished with a dusting of flavor. The company describes its approach as combining carefully selected ingredients with new ideas and a focus on quality.
