Their story
Pastiglie Leone began in 1857, when Luigi Leone opened a small confectionery in Neive, near Alba in Piedmont. In 1934 Giselda Balla Monero and her brother Celso Balla took over and moved production to Turin, and the Monero family ran the company for decades after.
Guido Monero moved the factory to Collegno, just outside Turin, in 2006. In 2018 the brand was acquired by Luca Barilla, and it continues to make sweets in Piedmont.
How it's made
Leone still presses many of its pastilles in traditional bronze molds. The range covers hard candies, jellies, gummies, licorice and chocolate in a long list of flavors, often packed in its well-known decorative tins.
Why we carry them
We love Leone tins as small gifts with a sense of history. Try the violet or mint pastilles, and keep the tin.
