Their story
Maison Angelot is run by brothers Eric and Philippe Angelot in the village of Marignieu, in the Bugey, a small wine area tucked between Savoie and the Jura in eastern France.
The brothers farm about 29 hectares split into some 20 parcels, some on steep hillsides and some on the valley floor. They grow the local grapes of the region, including Altesse (called Roussette here), Jacquère, Molette and the dark, peppery Mondeuse, alongside Gamay, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
How it's made
Grapes are picked by hand or machine depending on the parcel, usually around the end of September. Reds like Gamay and Mondeuse go through carbonic maceration for brightness, and most wines age only in stainless steel or cement-lined tanks to keep them fresh.
Why we carry them
We pour Angelot when we want something crisp and alpine that won't overwhelm dinner. The Roussette du Bugey is a great way into a region most people haven't tried.
