Their story

In 1989 Alexandre Gabriel and a partner bought Pierre Ferrand's vineyards and cognac distillery in Grande Champagne, near Segonzac. Under Gabriel the house kept making cognac and then branched out: Citadelle, launched in 1996, was France's first craft gin, and Plantation rum followed in 1999. The rum is now called Planteray.

In 2017 Maison Ferrand bought the West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados, and in 2021 it opened a distillery in Ars, Charente, devoted to Citadelle gin.

How it's made

Cognac is double distilled in traditional copper pot stills and aged in oak. Because the law limits cognac distillation to the winter months, the same stills make gin the rest of the year. Rums are distilled at their source in the Caribbean and Latin America, then aged and blended by the house.

Why we carry them

We trust Ferrand for bottles that make a home bar better, from Ferrand 1840 cognac for classic cocktails to Citadelle for a martini.
