Their story
Mast Brothers was the original name of the chocolate company Rick and Michael Mast, brothers from Primghar, Iowa, started in Brooklyn in 2007. Their Williamsburg shop, in a former spice factory, and their patterned wrappers made them one of the best-known names in American craft chocolate.
The company later dropped "Brothers" and became simply Mast. After a 2015 controversy over its early sourcing, it closed shops in London, Los Angeles and, in 2019, Williamsburg. The brothers reopened that December as Mast Market in Mount Kisco, New York.
How it's made
The brothers work bean to bar, roasting and refining cacao in-house. In 2011 they chartered a sailing ship to bring 20 tons of Dominican cacao to Brooklyn.
Why we carry them
We list Mast Brothers for anyone looking for the original name; today you'll find the same chocolate under Mast.
