Michaels Of Brooklyn
Pasta sauces from a family-run Italian restaurant in Brooklyn.
- Based in
- Brooklyn, New York
Their story
Michael's of Brooklyn started as a corner pizzeria in Marine Park, opened by the grandfather of chef Michael Cacace. Over the decades it grew into a full-service Italian restaurant with a catering hall and a bakery across the street, and the family still runs it, with Michael in the kitchen alongside his father and uncle.
In 2006 the family put its red sauce recipe into jars. The line now includes several marinara-style sauces along with vodka and Alfredo sauces, and it is sold well beyond Brooklyn.
How it's made
The jarred sauces follow the restaurant's fourth-generation family recipe and keep the ingredient list short. The same recipe has been jarred since 2006, and the range now spans red sauces, vodka sauce and Alfredo.
At least one of us is always here, usually two of us.
Why we carry them
When we want a jarred sauce that tastes like a neighborhood red-sauce place, this is a good one to reach for. Toss it with rigatoni and plenty of Parmigiano.
