Middle West Spirits
Grain-to-bottle Ohio whiskey and vodka from a Columbus distillery.
- Founded by
- Brady Konya, Ryan Lang
- Based in
- Columbus, Ohio
Their story
Brady Konya and Ryan Lang set up Middle West Spirits in a former taxi cab center in Columbus, Ohio. Lang comes from a family of distillers, and the pair set out to make spirits from Ohio grain, start to finish, at a time when no one else in the state was doing so.
Their main label is OYO, pronounced "Oh-Why-Oh," taken from an old name for the Ohio River Valley. The range began with whiskey, vodka and a honey vanilla bean vodka and has since grown along with the distillery.
How it's made
Middle West distills locally grown Ohio soft red winter wheat on a 600-liter copper and stainless still built on site by German craftsmen. The honey vanilla vodka uses local wildflower honey and fair-trade Ugandan vanilla beans, and early bottles were numbered by hand.
Why we carry them
A good example of how much flavor a Midwestern wheat whiskey can have. We like the OYO whiskey neat or in an easygoing highball.
