Their story

Mitica is the specialty foods label of Forever Cheese, the New York importer founded in 1998 by Michele Buster and Pierluigi Sini. The two started by bringing in cheese made by Pierluigi's family, and by 1999 they were importing cheeses and other foods from Italy, Spain, and Portugal.

The company later added producers from Croatia and became known for sheep and goat milk cheeses. Under the Mitica name it sells pantry goods such as Marcona almonds and fig and date cakes, found in cheese shops and specialty stores across the country.

How it's made

Buster picks producers based on taste and long relationships, sometimes searching for years to find the right one. Products are made by small Mediterranean producers and imported by Forever Cheese, which warehouses them in Secaucus, New Jersey.

Our producers are the backbone of the business and they have supported what we do from the very beginning.
Michele Buster, co-founder of Forever Cheese, to Business Wire (2023)

Why we carry them

Mitica is a go-to for building a cheese board. The Marcona almonds and fig cakes pair well with nearly any cheese we carry.
