Their story

Nc'nean was founded by Annabel Thomas on the remote Morvern peninsula in the Scottish Highlands, at Drimnin, looking across the Sound of Mull. She raised the money from family, friends, seed investors and a government-backed grant, and the stills first ran in 2017.

The early days were not easy: master distiller Jim Swan died just before the first distillation, and Gordon Wood, formerly of Diageo, now leads production. The first bottle sold at a charity auction in 2020 for over 41,000 pounds, and the distillery became a certified B Corp in 2022.

How it's made

Nc'nean makes organic, unpeated whisky with water from two nearby springs, using one wash still and one spirit still. The distillery runs on renewable electricity, uses 100% recycled glass, and in 2021 became the first UK whisky distillery to reach net zero carbon emissions in production. It also makes a botanical spirit.

Why we carry them

This is a fresh, bright take on Scotch from a young distillery that takes its footprint seriously. A good bottle for anyone who thinks single malt has to be smoky.
