Their story

North Coast Brewing Co. started as a small brewpub on Main Street in Fort Bragg, the fishing town on the Mendocino coast. Mark Ruedrich, Tom Allen and Joe Rosenthal opened it in August 1988, and the first year they made about 400 barrels.

The brewery grew steadily into one of the better-known craft breweries in the country, best known for Old Rasputin, a Russian imperial stout with a long list of medals. In 1996 it took on the historic Acme Brewing name, a San Francisco brand dating to 1907.

Today it is a certified B Corporation, and sales of its Brother Thelonious ale support education programs at the Monterey Jazz Festival.

How it's made

North Coast brews in Fort Bragg across a wide range of styles, from Red Seal Ale and Blue Star wheat to Pacific Magic IPA and the rich, roasty Old Rasputin. Brewing still happens in Fort Bragg, where the brewpub opened in 1988.

Why we carry them

We think Old Rasputin is one of the great American stouts, and the rest of the lineup is just as dependable. It is a Northern California classic worth keeping in the fridge.
