Their story
Oskar Blues started in 1997 as a restaurant and brewpub opened by Dale Katechis in Lyons, a small town in the Colorado foothills. Brewing began in the restaurant's basement a couple of years later.
In 2002 the brewery started canning Dale's Pale Ale, a move that made it one of the earliest American craft brewers to put its beer in cans, at a time when cans were seen as a mark of cheap beer. The company grew into a main brewery in Longmont and a second one in Brevard, North Carolina, and the original Lyons restaurant is still pouring. Oskar Blues is now owned by Monster Beverage.
How it's made
Oskar Blues brews at its Longmont, Colorado, and Brevard, North Carolina, breweries and packages most of its beer in cans, which keep out light and travel well. Its lineup runs from the hoppy Dale's Pale Ale to stouts and lighter lagers.
Why we carry them
We like Oskar Blues for its part in making canned craft beer normal. Dale's Pale Ale is still a solid, hoppy pick for a hike or a picnic.
