Their story
Rising Tide was started in Portland, Maine, in 2010 by Nathan and Heather Sanborn, a married couple. Nathan had been a stay-at-home dad and freelance designer, and Heather left her law practice to run the business side.
The brewery grew into a home on Fox Street in the East Bayside neighborhood, where its tasting room opened in 2012. Its best-known beer, Maine Island Trail Ale, launched in 2013 in support of the Maine Island Trail Association.
Rising Tide has since agreed to be acquired by fellow Maine brewer Oxbow, with Nathan staying on to lead brewing and the name and team kept in place.
How it's made
Rising Tide follows a "Beer First" approach, with quality checks from raw materials to finished beer and sensory training for every crew member. The brewery uses local ingredients in every beer to support Maine farmers.
