Their story
Brothers Julián and Andrés Barceló left Mallorca, Spain, for Santo Domingo in 1929, and a year later they founded Barceló & Co. and began making rum. Julián handed control to his nephew Miguel in 1974.
Today the company runs its warehouses, lab, and visitor center on a family estate in San Pedro de Macorís, on the Dominican Republic's southeast coast. In 2025 Barceló entered a partnership with Disaronno International.
How it's made
Since 2010 the rum has been made from fresh sugarcane juice rather than molasses, distilled at Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos, a distillery Barceló partly owns. The fermented cane wine is distilled to a very high strength, then aged in toasted ex-bourbon American oak and ex-wine French oak, so most of the flavor comes from the barrel.
Why we carry them
We keep Barceló on hand as a smooth, reliable Dominican rum for sipping over ice or mixing. The cane-juice base gives it a clean, gentle character.
