Their story

Spectrum Naturals was started in 1980 by Jethren Phillips in Petaluma, California, at a time when most supermarket cooking oils were extracted with chemical solvents. The company focused on mechanically pressed and organic oils and helped bring them into mainstream kitchens.

Over the years the business, later renamed Spectrum Organic Products, grew to include olive oils, salad dressings, condiments, butter substitutes and nutritional oils like flax. In 2005 it was acquired by The Hain Celestial Group, and the Spectrum brand continues under Hain today.

How it's made

Spectrum is known for expeller-pressed oils, which are extracted mechanically rather than with chemical solvents like hexane. The range covers organic and conventional culinary oils for both high-heat and finishing use. The company also developed a low-oxygen pressing process to protect delicate oils during extraction.

Why we carry them

Spectrum is a pantry staple with real Bay Area roots. We reach for it when we want a clean, neutral oil that was pressed rather than chemically extracted.
