Their story

Springbank was founded in 1828 in Campbeltown, on Scotland's Kintyre peninsula, by brothers Archibald and Hugh Mitchell. The distillery stands on the site of Archibald's earlier, unlicensed still, and it has remained in the hands of the Mitchell family and their company, J & A Mitchell, ever since.

Campbeltown once had dozens of distilleries, and Springbank is one of the few that survived. After longtime chairman Hedley G. Wright died in 2023, ownership passed to family trusts, keeping it independent. Alongside Springbank, the distillery also makes the Longrow and Hazelburn single malts.

How it's made

Springbank floor-malts all of its own barley on site, much of it bought from nearby farms, and carries out every step from malting to bottling in Campbeltown. Springbank is distilled two and a half times, while Longrow is distilled twice and Hazelburn three times.

We don't know. We're simply following our process.

Why we carry them

Springbank is a benchmark for whisky lovers, with a coastal, gently smoky character all its own. If you spot a bottle on our shelf, it is worth grabbing.
