Their story

Stefano Massone grew up among the vineyards of southern Piedmont and began working alongside his father as a child. He founded his own estate in 1996 in Capriata d'Orba, in the Gavi zone near the Ligurian border.

Today he runs the vineyards as owner and agronomist, working with winemaker Cristian Pomo. The estate farms 15 vineyards spread across six villages in the Gavi DOCG.

How it's made

The focus is Cortese, the white grape of Gavi, grown on soils that range from white limestone to red clay. The vineyards are farmed without herbicides, insecticides, or fertilizers, with grass cover between rows. The Masera Gavi rests on its lees for a few months, while the San Cristoforo bottling spends longer and is built to age.

Why we carry them

Massone's Gavi is a great white for seafood, pesto, or a simple plate of antipasti. It is a good way to get to know Cortese if you have not tried it.
