Their story
Tom and Marilyn Stolpman first dreamed of owning a vineyard on their Napa honeymoon. In 1988 they found what they were after: limestone soil near the ocean, in what is now the Ballard Canyon AVA of Santa Barbara County.
Since 1994 the vineyard has been run by Ruben Solorzano and his wife Maria, who lead a year-round crew. The Stolpmans' son Pete joined in 2009 and shifted most of the fruit into the family's own wines. The estate shares profits with its vineyard team through a program called La Cuadrilla.
How it's made
The estate is farmed organically on limestone soils. The flagship wines include Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc, while the So Fresh line, including Love You Bunches, uses grapes picked early, fermented as whole clusters, and bottled without added sulfur.
Why we carry them
Stolpman's Love You Bunches wines are bright and fun to chill on a warm day, and the estate Syrah is a serious bottle for dinner. We also like that the vineyard crew shares in the profits.
