Their story

The Clydeside Distillery sits on the banks of the River Clyde in Glasgow, inside the old Pump House at Queen's Dock. The building was put up in 1877 by John Morrison to power the swing bridge into the dock. More than a century later, his great-grandson Tim Morrison, a longtime figure in Scotch whisky, brought the family name back to the site.

After shipping traffic faded, the dock was filled in during the 1970s and the Pump House passed through several lives, from restaurants to offices. Morrison Glasgow Distillers bought it in 2011, building work started in 2016, and the first spirit ran from the stills in November 2017. It brought single malt distilling back to the city center for the first time in many years.

How it's made

Clydeside draws its water from Loch Katrine and ferments for 72 hours in stainless steel washbacks before distilling in a single pair of copper stills. The house style, shaped with the late consultant Dr. Jim Swan, is a light, fruity spirit with more spice than a typical Lowland malt, a nod to Glasgow's old tobacco and spice trade.

Why we carry them

We like Clydeside as a fresh take on the Lowlands, with a soft, fruity style that has a bit of spice behind it. It is an easy bottle to share with someone just getting into single malt.
