Thursday Cottage

Small-batch English curds and jams, cooked slowly and filled by hand.

Tiptree, Essex

Their story

Thursday Cottage began life in a small thatched cottage in Somerset, the building that gave the company its name. In 2002 it moved to a small factory at Trewlands Farm in Tiptree, Essex.

Today it is one of the brands of Wilkin and Sons, the family firm behind Tiptree preserves. The team still works in small batches, and most of the jams are filled by hand.

The range covers fruit curds, jams, marmalades and reduced-sugar spreads. Its blackcurrant jam won a Great Taste Award in 2022.

How it's made

Curds are made with fruit, sugar, free-range eggs and butter, cooked slowly and stirred gently in a curd kettle before being jarred. Jams are cooked in small batches to keep plenty of whole fruit, and marmalades are made in open pans.

It is a great acknowledgement for the care and attention that goes into making our handmade jams and curds.
Donna Smith, managing director, to the Daily Gazette (2022)

Why we carry them

We reach for Thursday Cottage curds for scones and tarts, and the passion fruit and ginger flavors are worth a try if you only know lemon.
