Their story

Union Horse is a family affair. Siblings Eric, Damian, Patrick and Mary Garcia-Gallagher started the distillery in 2010 with entrepreneur Kris Hennessy, setting up in Lenexa, Kansas, on the edge of Kansas City.

The family still owns and runs it today. Visitors can tour the distillery and taste in its Rider Room, and the range has grown to include straight bourbon, a bottled-in-bond reserve, Reunion Rye and vodka.

How it's made

Whiskey is made in small batches on site in a 500-gallon copper pot and column still the team calls Chester Copperpot. The bourbon uses a sour mash of mostly corn with some rye, and the Reunion Rye is made from a 100 percent rye mash. Spirits age in new oak barrels, and bottles are signed by hand.

Why we carry them

We like Union Horse for honest Midwestern whiskey made by a family that does the work themselves. The Reunion Rye is a good pick for a spicy, classic Manhattan.
