Their story
Ventura Spirits is the work of four friends: brothers Andrew and Anthony Caspary, Andrew's Dartmouth roommate Henry Tarmy, and James Greenspun. Between them they brought business, engineering, design and environmental backgrounds to a small distillery in Ventura, California, which began selling in 2014.
They see distilling as a farming tradition tied to place, so their spirits lean on Ventura County fruit and plants from the hills nearby. The lineup has included Wilder Gin, a vodka made from local strawberries, and a prickly pear spirit.
How it's made
Wilder Gin starts with an organic wheat spirit and adds California botanicals like purple sage, sagebrush, bay leaf, yerba santa and pixie tangerine peel, some foraged in the Santa Monica Mountains behind the distillery. The team distills on a copper hybrid column and pot still they built themselves.
We have a heartfelt belief that distilling is an agrarian tradition firmly rooted in place.
