Vina Maitia

Natural wines from the old bush vines of Chile's Maule Valley.

Founded by
David Marcel

Their story

Viña Maitia is the project of David Marcel, a Frenchman who settled in Chile and makes wine with his Chilean wife, Loreto. They work in the Maule Valley, a rural region known for its old bush vines.

Alongside their sister label Aupa, the couple helped spark new interest in pipeño, the light, rustic country red of the Chilean countryside. Their lineup includes País and old-vine Carignan, such as the cheekily named Weon.

How it's made

The grapes come from old bush vines growing on granite soils, mostly País and Carignan. Marcel makes the wines with minimal intervention, in a natural style meant to show the fruit and the place.

Why we carry them

We love these for anyone who enjoys light, juicy reds with a little wildness. The Aupa Pipeño is a great chillable bottle for warm days.
