Their story
Wright & Brown is the work of two longtime friends, Dan Wright and Earl Brown, one a former tugboat captain with some moonshining behind him and the other a home brewer. Earl grew up in Humboldt County, and his family ranch still plays a part in the business.
After a long custom buildout, they opened in 2015 on Adeline Street in West Oakland, describing themselves as the first distillery in the area since before Prohibition. The space holds the stills, a tasting room and cocktail bar.
Their lineup centers on bourbon and rye, along with barrel-aged rum, gin and vodka.
How it's made
Grain is organic and non-GMO, bought from small family farms in Humboldt County and the Sacramento area, with some dry-farmed on Earl's family ranch. They follow traditional American methods, and the flagship bourbon is aged in new charred oak and bottled in bond.
Why we carry them
Wright & Brown is about as local as American whiskey gets for us, made just across the bay from California grain.
