Their story
Ysidro began during the pandemic with a group of neighbors in Montecito. Monica Epstein and her husband Seth wanted a light, easy drink, and their friend Alex Dessouky, a wine importer, steered them toward sake.
The name comes from San Ysidro Road, a few blocks from where the founders live, and San Ysidro, patron saint of farmers and gardeners, appears on the can. The pink color is a nod to the evening glow over Ojai and Santa Barbara.
The spritz launched around Santa Barbara and Southern California and is now sold across the country.
How it's made
The base is a Junmai Ginjo sake from an American producer, blended for Ysidro with input from Dessouky and the brewery's master brewer. Organic grapefruit and sea salt from the West Coast are added, and the drink is canned at 6.9% ABV. It is gluten-free, vegan and made without added sulfites.
We think of Ysidro as 'the drink of Montecito.'
Why we carry them
We reach for this when we want something lighter than a cocktail but more interesting than seltzer. Serve it very cold.
